Richard Charles MacDonald, 68, passed away on Nov. 28, after a long illness. Born in Boston, he graduated from Quincy High in 1961. He served in the U.S. Air Force, where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant in the Strategic Air Command, serving in Germany and Alaska. As a teen, he enjoyed taking his family on train rides on the Old Colony Line from Quincy to Boston. His entire working career was spent in the airline business, with Northwest Orient, Braniff and Lufthansa Airlines from which he retired after 30 years of service. He worked and lived in Seattle, Miami, San Francisco, Frankfurt and Boston. His love of travel took him all over the world. Fluent in five languages, he spent most of his vacations and days-off on a plane or a train. Family members would receive postcards from all over the world. He treated his parents to a trip to Scotland in 1972.
He was the son of the late Russell and Marjorie MacDonald of Quincy, and a beloved brother to Elaine (William) Farrell of Brockton, Laurence (Joanne) MacDonald of Wilmington, Russell J MacDonald and his wife Diane of Wilmington, Virginia ONeill and her husband Jerry of Cheshire, CT, Gerald MacDonald and his wife Barbara of Plymouth, and Nancy MacDonald and her husband Marcell Enoch of Goffstown, NH. He was predeceased by Kathleen (MacDonald) Madden of Quincy in 2002. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held after cremation.
