Helen “Joan” (McKenzie) Ganshirt of Whitman beloved wife of the late James R Ganshirt died Thursday, October 25, 2012 after a brief illness.
Joan was born in Boston, a daughter of the late James and Ellen (Nolan) McKenzie, and graduated from St Columbkille High School. She began working at Recording & Statistical in Boston where she met her husband and moved to Whitman to start her family.
Joan is survived by her children, Mark J. Ganshirt and his wife Debra of Carver, Sharon M. LoPiccolo and her husband Sal of Bourne, Michael J. Ganshirt of Whitman, Susan E. Ganshirt and her husband Michael Webster of Black Diamond, Canada, and John C. Ganshirt of Bridgewater. She was the grandmother of Brian, Daniel, and Matthew of Carver, Mary and Sarah of Bourne, and Meagan of Black Diamond, Canada.
Joan was the loving sister of the late James McKenzie, Carol Shutt, Maureen Brennan, Timothy McKenzie, and Mary Lorraine McKenzie. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Margaret Whelton of Somerville, Lorraine McKenzie of Brighton, and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the MacKinnon Funeral Home, 760 Washington Street, Whitman, Wednesday October 31st 4-8 p.m.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, at 11 a.m. in Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Interment will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne Thursday at 1:15 pm.
In lieu of flower, donations in Joan’s memory may be made to the Whitman Food Pantry & St. Vincent de Paul Society, P. O. Box 560, Whitman, MA 02382.
