William F. Lemieux, Jr. of Whitman passed away Friday May 10, 2013. He was 81. William (Bill) was born on August 8, 1931 to William F. Lemieux Sr. and Dorothy Ardyss Kenn of Quincy, MA. Raised in Quincy, Weymouth and Braintree, he played baseball for Braintree High School, the American Legion, and the Quincy Police League. After graduating from Braintree High School in 1950, Bill attended the Franklin Institute in Boston and worked for the Patriot Ledger and the Fall River Shipyard in Quincy, MA. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in February 1952 where he worked in radio communications until 1956. He married the late Mary D. (Sanford) Lemieux of Evanston, IL on June 12, 1954. They moved to Evanston where he worked for the Illinois Bell from 1956-1960. Bill joined the Evanston Fire Department in 1961 where he worked until his retirement. He was an active volunteer in St. Mary’s Parish, the Evanston Boys Baseball Association and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his son William F. Lemieux, III of Wilmette, IL, and daughter Genie Lemieux- Jordan of Evanston, IL; his grandchildren Lily Lemieux-Jordan and Leila Lemieux-Jordan; and sister Barbara A. Lemieux of Rockland, MA.  He is also survived by his loving companion and dear friend Jean McDonald of Whitman, MA and her family; daughter-in-law Tina (Folk) Lemieux; son-in-law Steve Jordan-Lemieux; and many family and friends. Bill was an avid Red Sox fan, enjoyed crossword puzzles, cribbage, and spending summers in Cape Cod where he enjoyed clamming and was known as “Mr. Clam.” He was a seventh generation descendant of Gabriel Lemieux, who with his cousin Pierre Lemieux, were master coopers and one of the first permanent settlers in Quebec City in 1642.

Visitation will be held on Saturday May 18 th in the MacKinnon Funeral Home, 760 Washington St., Whitman 10 am – 12 pm.

A Burial will follow at Colebrook Cemetery in Whitman.
