William "Bill" Louis Dern, 74. Formerly of New Bedford, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 25, 2023. Bill was born in Boston to the late Edmund Dern and Evelyn " Jessie" (MacDonald) Kelly; stepson to the late Francis T. Kelly, Sr. In heaven, he joins his sister Jessie (Dern) and her husband John Webster, their sons John "Packey "Jr and Jason Webster, and brother Francis T. Kelly, Jr.
He is survived by his brother George and wife Diana Dern of Dennisport , sister MaryJane (Dern) Murphy of Manomet, sister Jeanette Kelly of Boston, daughter Belinda (Weaver) and husband Joseph Carney of NY, son William II and wife Katy Dern of TX, Anthony Dern of MA, daughter Crystallee Sharkus of ME, daughter Felicia Marie Dern of NH, and daughter Christina (Dern) and husband Frank Bolstad Jr. of MA. Loving Papa to Clarissa, Cassidy, Sara, William S, Thomas, Lilyana, and Baby Girl Bolstad (due in April).
Bill was most proud of being a United States Marine. Serving in Vietnam. After an honorable discharge, he was known as "Teen Angel", DJing around the Roxbury/Jamaica Plain area. Lovingly known as the "Mayor of White Horse Beach", you could always find him playing and singing along to his golden oldies. He was a dedicated Boston sports fan, keeping up with each and every game. above all, he loved his family more than anything in the world. He is loved and missed by many.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation for Bill on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 from 930-1130AM in the MacKinnon Funeral Home (760 Washington St. Whitman). A burial will follow the visitation at the Massachusetts National Cemetery at 1:15PM.
