William K. Archer, age 88, of Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 17, 2015. Bill is survived by his two sisters, Connie White and Gwen Archer, who both still live in Sydney Mines. Bill served in the Korean War. After being discharged, he studied here in Boston at Boston University, Class of 1957. When Bill graduated, his career as a writer and editor took him to Louisville, Kentucky where he worked for the Louville Courrier for many yeares and then came back to Quincy where he worked with The Patriot Ledger until he retired. Throughout his life Bill was an avid runner, running many marathons, the last being the Millennium Marathon in New Zealand. After Bill retired, he continued to live in Quincy and took on a volunteer position at the Quincy YMCA where he shared his marathon experiences and coached many people to successfully complete their first marathon and subsequent marathons thereafter. Bill ran this program for over 20 years. Bill was a wonderful man and will be sadly missed and remembered by his sisters Connie and Gwen, relatives and friends in Sydney Mines, and also by all his friends and fellow runners at the Quincy YMCA .
Friends are invited to do a 3-mile run on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 9 a.m. at the Quincy YMCA to be followed by an informal breakfast 10 a.m. to 12 a.m.
Bill will be laid to rest in Quincy at the Mount Wollaston Cemetery.
