Sophia (Roy) Hamelin, 95, of Whitman, passed away peacefully Saturday December 22, 2018 at Brockton Hospital. She was born on October 13, 1923 in Indiana, PA, a daughter of the late Alexander and Julia (Dividock) Roy. She was the loving wife of Edward J Hamelin Sr of Whitman. She was a registered nurse in PA before moving to MA and getting married. Sophia was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Whitman, MA. She was a very strong woman of her faith. She enjoyed being with family, friends, the family golden retriever Spencer, and she loved butterflies.
She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years Edward J Hamelin Sr of Whitman, six children: Joan Winstead and husband Harold of Bangor, ME, Gregory Hamelin and wife Cheryl of Glenburn, ME, Paul Hamelin of Whitman, MA, Maryanne Chenard of Whitman, MA, Peter Hamelin and wife Ellie of Carver, MA, Edward J Hamelin Jr and husband Jheinigton Vinha of Abington, MA; and the late Mark Roy Hamelin. She is also survived by her brothers Albert and George Roy of PA; her sisters Dorothy Freno of OH and Dolores Urchuck of PA; and the late Paul, Alexander, Frank and John Roy, Margaret Shaffer and Pauline McDaniels. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Christopher Winstead, Sarah Hamelin LeBlanc and husband Douglas LeBlanc Sr, Sean Wyman and wife Julie, Casey Wyman; two step grandchildren, Brayden LeBlanc and Douglas LeBlanc Jr; one great grandchild, Addison LeBlanc and many nieces and nephews.
Realtives and friends invited to a funeral mass Monday December 31 st in Holy Ghost Church, Whitman at 9 am.
Burial to follow at St. James Cemetery in Whitman.
