Rita Feeney

April 17, 1937 — August 9, 2018

Rita M. (Lydon) Feeney of Whitman formerly of South Boston passed away peacefully surrounded by family August 9, 2018. Beloved wife of Joseph T. Feeney. Loving mother of Joseph Feeney and his wife Sally of East Bridgewater, Brian Feeney of Whitman, Colleen Chin and her husband Benjamin of S. Boston, and Michael Feeney and his wife Lynette of Whitman. Sister of Kathleen Riley and her late husband Donald of Quincy. Brother in law John Feeney and his wife Kathy of Plymouth.  Also survived by 8 grandchildren.

Rita was born in Boston daughter of Michael and Bridget (Cogran) Lydon.  Rita was proud of her Irish Heritage. She was a graduate of Laboure School of Nursing, 1957, Emmanuel College in 1980 receiving her B.A, and a graduate of Northeastern University in 1982 as a Nurse Practitioner. She worked as a school nurse for St. Bridget’s in Abington, Brockton Public Schools and she retired as a Nurse Practitioner at Bridgewater State College. She was always available as the neighborhood nurse to the Brookfield neighborhood. She was a former member of the Whitman-Hanson School Committee. Rita loved to travel especially to St. Croix to see her friends. “She was the greatest neighbor anyone could have”, and she will be dearly missed.

Relatives and friends invited to attend visiting hours in the MacKinnon Funeral Home, 760 Washington St. Whitman on Monday Aug. 13 th 4-8 pm.

Funeral mass Tuesday in Holy Ghost Church, Whitman at 10:30 am.

Burial to follow at St. James Cemetery, Whitman.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Rita’s memory to Alzheimer’s Foundation, 322 Eight Ave., 7 th Flr., New York, NY 10001.
