Richard Thompson

Richard “Capt. Dick” Thompson, 88, of Fairhaven passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Aug. 15. He was born in Rockland, ME., son of Rear Admiral John W. Thompson and Marguerite Ritchie Thompson. Dick graduated from Barnstable High School in 1944, and from Mass Maritime Academy in 1947. He served in the Navy during the Korean War on the USS Worcester. Dick’s Maritime career includes his travels around the world in the merchant marine, Gen. Mgr of Nantucket Boat, and Owner/Capt. of the New Bedford/Martha’s Vineyard ferry m/v Manisee & Schamonchi.

There will be a celebration of his life at a later date.
