Peter Letvinchuk, of Rockland, MA, died suddenly in South Shore Hospital, Weymouth, MA on February 1, 2017 at the age of nearly 79. He was the son of Peter and Helen (Zdonczyk) of Boston, Ma, where he was born, raised, and attended Boston English High School and Northeastern University. He was then married to Julianne (Santasuosso) Letvinchuk, for more than 30 years before her passing.
After earning an engineering degree from Northeastern University he helped develop early personal computers for IBM, Digital, and Compac. As contracted project manager, and with his teams, he was instrumental in finding the most effective and safe materials for monitor casings, circuit boards, and keyboards to minimize their size, while maximizing their efficiency.
During these same years he served proudly and quietly in the Army Reserves and received an honorable discharge for completion of his peacetime commitment.
Peter was always an avid football and baseball fan, especially of the Patriots and Red Sox, going to Fenway Park and other ball parks for “live” baseball games whenever possible.
His design and detail-oriented woodworking skills led him to choose to create heirloom wooden puzzles, motion toys (rocking horses, trucks, etc), and doll furniture. His work was selected to participate for multiple years at desirable, juried New England craft or artisan events.
He was very proud of his annual floral plantings and harvest of heirloom fruits and vegetables. Any free time was spent attending to the particular needs of each plant, trying to beat those pesky bugs and hungry birds (whom he fed all year and greatly enjoyed anyway!).
As a sudden widower, Peter lived alone for a few years before marrying Roberta (Moran) Letvinchuk of Dudley, MA. They enjoyed big band music and ballroom dancing, political debates, and travelling, especially to families in Maine, Virginia, and North Carolina.
Peter has been the cherished father to daughter Suzanne Abreu of Clayton, NC , and son Michael John Letvinchuk of Rockland. He is a dear brother to Carol Letvinchuk of Braintree, MA, and Helen Condry of Arizona.
He has three loving grandchildren, Courtney (Letvinchuk) Mills, Ella Julianne Abreu, and Cole Zachary Abreu. His two great grandchildren are Ethan Parker Letvinchuk and Adalye Mae Mills.
Peter is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, brothers-in –law and sisters in-law, and friends.
