Norman Leonard

Norman Leonard passed away June 1st after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Son of the late Albert and Pauline (Bowser) Leonard and son-in-law to the late Ernest and Bertha (Reed) Clark, he was a longtime resident of Elmwood.  Loving husband of Meredith (Clark) Leonard and father to Paul Leonard and his wife Marsha of Plymouth, William Leonard who passed in infancy, and Bradford Leonard and his wife Kerry of Middleboro. Proud Grandfather to Holly, Amy, Alyssa and Christina Leonard and great-grandfather to her daughter Isabel.
He was brother to Marie Bowen her husband the late Carl Bowen of Elmwood, the late Jean (Leonard) Blackwell  and her husband the late Fredrick, and the late Philip Leonard.
He is survived by his dear sister-in-laws Cheryl Clark of Whitman, Irene (Clark) White and her husband Edward of Charlotte Hall, MD, and Ann (Healey) Leonard of Penobscot, ME, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Growing up in Elmwood, he was active in scouting and the Elmwood New Church.  He found a love for camping, boating,the outdoors, and evenings sitting around a campfire, which he continued to enjoy for his entire life.
Later in life, he along with his father-in law Ernest Clark, became members of the Satucket Rifle and Revolver Club where his skills in target shooting  qualified him to compete in the US Olympic team trials.

He returned to the family homestead in Elmwood after residing in Bryantville while raising his family and was a regular visitor to the Elmwood New Church and became  a Member of the Elmwood Cemetery Council.
He was employed by Whitman Burial Vault Co. and was familiar with every route to Cemeteries located in the area and where to get a good cup of coffee nearby.  With his amazing skill at knowing the wide area they served, he was often consulted by his co-workers on the best routes and his tips for any assignment they received.
Renowned by his family for his epic Sunday drives, which often extended into the surrounding states, he never met a back road or coffee shop he wasn't game to try. His outgoing and warm nature never failed to begin conversations with anyone  nearby.  He was always remembered on return visits and was the original "NORM" long before the show "Cheers" was dreamed of.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday June 7th at MacKinnon Funeral Home, 760 Washington St. Whitman, MA from 4pm to 8pm.

Funeral service Thursday at 10 am in the funeral home.

Burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery in East Bridgewater.
