M. Virginia "Ginny" Kirby

M.Virginia “Ginny” Kirby,81,of Whitman, beloved wife of 53 years to the late Daniel T Kirby, died Wednesday, September 7, surrounded by family and friends.  Ginny will be sadly missed by her daughter Kathleen, her son-in-law Thomas Meehan and their children: Tom and his wife Mary, Jeffrey and Katelyn; her son Daniel and his wife Rachael, their children Reily, Caden, Bridgette, Jessica and Daniel. Also survived by great grandsons Zachary, Declan, Conor, and Wesley. She was the sister of the late William Kannaly and Peg Cesario. In addition, Ginny will be lovingly remembered by countless friends and colleagues.

Ginny taught third grade in Whitman for most of her 37 years in education.  A leader and advocate for public education, Ginny served as president of the WEA and PCEA; she was a member of the MTA Board of Directors, and served as Massachusetts delegate to NEA for many years.  Ginny was a proud recipient of the prestigious Lorretta A. Quinlan Award.  Ginny was a member of the Whitman Town Democratic Committee and Altrusa International. Ginny and Dan loved to travel and spent many years in Sun City Center, FL.

Visiting hours in the MacKinnon Funeral Home, 760 Washington St., Whitman on Tuesday Sept. 13 ^th 4-7 pm.

Funeral Mass Wednesday in Holy Ghost Church, Whitman at 9 am. Relatives and friends invited to attend.

Burial to be held at a later date.
