Marjorie Barbara Phyllis Sooklal, 82, died July 2, 2014, after a valiant battle with cancer, with her family by her side in Boston Massachusetts. Marjorie was born in 1932 to Frederick and Dorothy Brooks in Princes Town , Trinidad.
Marjorie attended Teachers Training College in Trinidad and was an elementary school teacher in Princes Town before traveling to the United States where she received her Bachelor's degree from Boston University and her Masters Degree in Education, from Lesley College. She joined the Peace Corps in 1983 and traveled to Samoa where she continued to teach. She returned to the states and retired from the Newton School District in 1994.
Marjorie was involved in many activities in her community and church. She loved to travel and made many trips abroad. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Her favorite hobby was to spend time at Twin Rivers and Foxwoods with her sisters.
Marjorie was predeceased by her husband David in 1993. Marjorie's happiest moments are those she spent with her large family.
She leaves behind her 5 sons and their families, Andre and Michelle , Jerome and Katya, and Louis and Karen all residing in Florida. Adrian and Barbara and Stanton and Christine who reside in Massachusetts.
She leaves behind her sisters and brothers, Elva Brooks, Ermine Brooks Cameron, Clyde Brooks (Trinidad), Sylvia Whitehall (NY), Sybil Brooks, Pearl Mohamed (Ma.) and Hilmore Brooks (Ca.) she was predeceased by one sister Rita and four brothers, Cecil, Roy, Lincoln and Winston.
Marjorie has 6 grandchildren, Ashley, Adrianne, Damian, Tristan, Ian and Trey and one great grandchild, Lennon. In addition she leaves Tom Getek who she considered one of her boys and many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
There will be a Memorial Service to celebrate Marjorie's life Saturday July 5th at 12pm at Grace Episcopalian Church at 150 Chapel Street, Norwood, Ma., for her family and friends.
