M. Doris Thompson

January 18, 1925 — March 5, 2025

Bridgewater, MA

M. Doris Thompson (Flaherty) of Bridgewater passed away on Wednesday March 5, 2025, at the age of 100. Doris was raised and educated in Brockton and attended Brockton High School with the class of 1942. After graduating she attended the Williams School of Business. She used her education to secure a job as a loan teller with the Brockton National Bank for 9 years. She continued to further her career and was the Secretary of the Director of Special Education in the Brockton public school system until her retirement in 1989. In her retirement years she volunteered as a secretary and lector for St. John the Evangelist Parish in E. Bridgewater.

While in those positions she was surprised and honored with a watch presented to her by the former St. John’s Pastor Fr. Walter Keymont at a church dinner. She also had the privilege to be chosen as the recipient for the Bishop Cheverus Award by Cardinal Sean O’Malley at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. In her free time, she loved reading, playing the piano and singing, most especially Irish tunes. She painted beautiful artworks of landscapes and enjoyed many great times with her friends at St John Parish and the High Pond Estates. Her greatest love was spending time and gathering with her beloved family. She was a woman that would put a smile on everyone’s face and would do whatever she could to help anyone who needed it.

Doris was born to the late John and Marguerite Flaherty and was predeceased by her husband James W. Thompson and her brother Fr. Thomas I. Flaherty, OSB. She was the loving mother of Joan Thompson and her spouse Deb Tripp of N. Dartmouth, James and Melanie Thompson of E. Bridgewater, Denise and Thomas DiGiuseppe of Danvers, Paul and Debbie Thompson of St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada, Susan Collins of N. Dartmouth and son-in-law John Wyman Jr. of Whitman. She was predeceased by her daughter Carole Wyman. Doris was fortunate enough to have her 10 grandchildren Thomas, James and Stephen DiGiuseppe, Hillary, Zachary and Bridget Thompson , Danny and Jillian Collins, Lyndsey Thompson-Barter and Megan Boles and her 12 great grandchildren.
