Madelyn A. DeShong, of Whitman and a lifetime resident of the South Shore, passed away April 14, 2009 at St. Joseph Manor Nursing Facility, Brockton after a lengthy illness. Born in Braintree, she was the daughter of the late Augustus and Agnes (Robertson) DeShong and the sister of Gloria M. Owens who predeceased her July 12, 2008. She was also the loving friend of the late Roy Nelson of Braintree. She is survived by three nieces. Madelyn attended Braintree Schools, graduating from Braintree High School in 1941. Following secretarial school, she was employed for many years at the Patriot Ledger and the Brockton law firm Goodwin Proctor. She lived for many years in North Quincy, Holbrook, and later with her sister and her niece Judith Owens in Whitman. Madelyn was an avid reader and gardener, belonging to several local garden clubs.
Services will be private.
