Attorney Joseph Francis O'Connor passed away at his daughter's home in Massachusetts on Friday, June 1, 2012. Mr. O'Connor was born in Scranton, Pa., on April 18th, 1920, to Mary Rose Gallagher O'Connor and Joseph Francis O'Connor, D.D.S. He was a graduate of the University of Scranton, the Wharton School of Commerce and Finance and received his Juris Doctor degree from the Catholic University of America's Columbus School of Law in Washington, D.C., where he met his wife and fellow student, Aida Casañas O'Connor.
Joseph proudly served his country during
WWII
and made countless trips across the Atlantic as an officer in the Army transport division and was a member of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars
of the United States.
Joseph left private practice to serve as General Counsel for the Government of Puerto Rico for 39 years. He is predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Aida Casañas O'Connor; his brothers, John and Paul O'Connor; and his granddaughter, Ashley Lauren O'Connor.
He is survived by his sister, Anne Marie McHugh of Scranton, Pa.; his children, Joseph (Lenore) O'Connor of Tampa, Fla.; their daughters, Tara (Brian) Daly and Lindsay (Kevin) Courtney; Noreen (Peter) Marszalek of Hopkinton, Mass.; and their daughters, Alexandra and Liza; and John R. O'Connor and his son, John R. O'Connor Jr. of Tampa, Fla. Lastly, he was the proud great-grandfather of Madison O'Connor Courtney.
He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and countless close friends. May he rest in peace with his wife, Aida, the love of his life.
