Joseph Laing of Quincy passed away on December 3, 2024, at the age of 76. Joe was born in Sharon and moved to Quincy as a child with his family. He graduated from Christopher Columbus Central Catholic High School with the class of 1965 and attended two years at the Boston State College.
After his time at Boston State Joe entered the United States Air Force and proudly served for four years. He was stationed at Sheppard AFB in Texas and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. While stationed he was a member of the Great Pumpkin Folk Ensemble and performed both on and off base. After his discharge Joe gained employment with the Department of Veteran Affairs in Boston, retiring in 2003 as a Section Chief.
Joe was an active guy and was always keeping busy. He played in a Monday night bowling league and many softball leagues through the years. His teams won the ’79 league championship and placed 3rd in the NAGA World Series in Milwaukee, He even founded a league, the Beantown Softball League. While he wasn’t playing softball or bowling, he enjoyed his motorcycle. He was a member of the Vikings Motorcycle Club and served as Road Captain and as President for multiple terms. He also was Secretary and later as President with the Atlantic Motorcycle Coordinating Council (AMCC) for multiple years.
Preceded in death by his parents, James and Dorothy Tahany Laing, sisters Mary Laing, Susan Laing Chase and Sister-in-Law Kathleen Shea Laing. Survived by his brother Peter, daughter Tori Laing, Brother-in-law Malcolm Chase, daughters Lisa Chase and Dawn Chase Kelsch and her husband Brandon (Randy), daughters Amelia and Ella.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a graveside service in memory of Joe on Friday, December 13, 2024 at 1:45PM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
