Joseph Benedict

April 3, 1931 — January 4, 2016

Joseph Benedict, a resident of Harwich for 23 years, passed away at home with his family by his side on Monday Jan.4 2016.

He is preceded by his beloved wife of 60 years, Carol.

Joe is survived by his three children; Carla, Scott and Melissa. He took great pride and joy in his six grandchildren; Samantha, Tyler, Amanda, Alexander, Jonathan and Olivia.

Joe Was born on April 3rd 1931, the only child of Helen Ireland Hutchins. He grew up in Mamaroneck, NY. Joe and Carol were High School sweethearts and graduated from F.E. Bellows High School in Mamaroneck.

Joe went on to play professional baseball for the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league.

He pursued his education and Graduated from Iona College in New Rochelle, NY with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. His last positon before retiring was Vice President of the purchasing dept. of Reichold Chemicals.

Joe was an active member in the parish of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Mamaroneck where he sang in the choir and served as an usher.

Joe and Carol moved to Harwich in 1992, they became members and were past officers of the Cranberry Valley social group. Joe loved to play golf and was a member of the Cranberry Valley Men's Association. Joe enjoyed the simpler things in life; Watching the Cape Cod Baseball League, going to town band concerts in the summer, watching the birds in his backyard, gardening, going for ice cream sundaes, Christmas lights and his two beloved dogs, Skipper and Cleo.

Joe was a kind and caring man with a great sense of humor. He will be missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held in the summer.
