Jonathan Renn Trader, 75, Navy man and Realtor, passed away on July 6, 2017, at the Lahey Hospital in Burlington, Mass., after a brave battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was born in Aiken, S.C., on January 10, 1942, son of William and Helen (Hix) Trader. Jon was raised in Yonkers, N.Y., and Wellesley, Mass. He joined the Navy in 1960 and served aboard USS Claud Jones (DE 1033) as a helmsman during the Cuban Blockade. After the Navy, Jon attended and graduated from Fitchburg State College. He became a social worker for many years and then returned to Wellesley and Cambridge where he sold real estate for over 40 years.
Jon was preceded in death by his sister Lyn (Trader) Scott and is survived by his former wife, Sondra Hart of San Diego, Calif., daughter Tiffany Trader of San Diego, Calif., his brother, Dal of Garden Grove, Calif., his nieces, Anne Cimon, Marylou McDermott and Sandy Davis from the Boston South Shore, and other nieces and nephews across the country. He also leaves behind his longtime companion, Beverly Giblin of Madison, Conn., with whom he shared many treasured memories. Jon was an avid surfcaster who loved the ocean and a compulsive garage sale sailor.
