John J. Morgan, Jr., 96 of Whitman passed away peacefully on September 1, 2014 at Colony Care Rehab. in Abington. He was the devoted husband of Lillian V. (Beauchemin) Morgan for 72 Years. Born in Everett on August 26, 1918 , the son of the late John J. Morgan and Margaret E. (Driscoll) Morgan. After high School he joined the USMC and he served in the Pacific during WW II with the 1st Marine Div. at Guadalcanal, and he remained on active duty for 20 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He is a graduate of Bridgewater State Teachers College , where he attedned his 50th reunnion in 2011. John taught at Morton Jr. High in Fall River until his retirement. He was very active in many organizations including the Fleet Reserve and Retired Armed Forces Assoc., and he was a 4 th Degree Knight of Columbus. A lifelong devout Catholic, he most recently attended Holy Ghost Church, Whitman.
He is survived by his son Edward F. Morgan of Portland OR, and his daughters Julia F. (Morgan) Cohen of Canoga Park, CA, and Margaret E. (Morgan) Adams of Whitman. He was predeceased by his son Henry Leo Morgan of Fall River and daughter Marie Theresa (Morgan) Work of Albuquerque, NM. Also survived by 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and numerous loving family members and friends.
Visiting hours in the MacKinnon Funeral Home, 760 Washington St., Whitman on Thursday Sept. 4 th 4-8 pm.
A Mass of Christian burial will be on Friday at 9 am in Holy Ghost Church, Whitman.
Burial at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Fall River.
