Janet A. Thayer

July 25, 1940 — January 14, 2025

Janet Thayer of East Bridgewater passed away peacefully with family by her side on January 14, 2025, at the age of 84. Janet was raised in Hyde Park and graduated from Cardinal Cushing High School in Boston. After graduating, she moved to East Bridgewater where she married and raised three children.

Janet worked as an office administrator for St. John Church in East Bridgewater and as benefits and payroll administrator for the Whitman-Hanson Regional High School. Janet was a competitive golfer who could “hit the ball a ton.” She participated in fall and spring golf leagues at the Ridder Country Club and played in many tournaments. She was an avid reader and loved board games. Happy to give back to the community, she was a eucharistic minister, a volunteer for the East Bridgewater Council on Aging and Meals on Wheels. Janet loved to spend time with her family and friends and her Christmas cookies and pumpkin squares were the highlight of the holiday season.

Her legacy is one of kindness, grace, and compassion which will endure in the hearts of her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched throughout her journey. In the final years of life, Janet’s strength shone through as she courageously battled cancer, facing each challenge with resilience, determination, and a sense of humor.

Janet was the daughter of the late Elmer and Ruth Thayer. She was predeceased by her sister Joan Horigan of Wareham and she leaves behind her friend and sister Maureen Thayer of Halifax. Janet was the mother of Scott Hickey and his wife Marie of Abington and Maureen Holbrook and her husband Larry of East Bridgewater and Gayle Hickey of East Bridgewater. She was “Auntie” to Michael Thayer of Hanson, his wife Kristine and their son Paxton and predeceased by nephews John and Steven Horigan. She was the loving and proud “Gram” of Alexandra and Ashley Holbrook, Jacqueline Vincent and her husband David, Ryan Hickey and his wife Allyson, and Meghann Hickey and great grandmother of Zachary and Jacob Vincent.
