James A. Farrell, 69 passed away peacefully after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born in Boston and raised in Rockland, son of the late James and Janice (Colantonio) Farrell.
He was survived by his 3 sons, James P. Farrell, Jr. and his wife Stephanie Caraccio of Methuen, Ryan Farrell of Methuen, Dominic Farrell of Dorchester. 2 daughters, Jamie Murphy and her husband Joey Welch of Weymouth, Janice Farrell of Dorchester. 2 stepsons, Mark Bourglas of Dorchester, and Cory Farrenkopf of Marshfield. 2 granddaughters, Arianna Farrell and Gizelle Montilla who were his pride and joy. His loving companion Nadine Ostroff. He was the brother of Brenda Farrell-Rocha and her husband Lenny of New Bedford and Helen Canale and her husband Joe of Hanson. He was also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
His greatest joy was spending time with his family and granddaughters.
James or Jimmy to everyone who knew him was an avid sports fan and professional boxer. He was a member of the New England Boxing Hall of Fame. In his prime, Jimmy put his mark on the boxing world by becoming a professional fighter where he was ranked #2 in the country in his weight class. After hanging up the gloves professionally, he opened and co-owned a gym where he trained and mentored many fighters – over 40 amateur champions as well as several pros. His passion and dedication to his craft was a true testament of his love for the sport. He never turned anyone away. He loved his fighters as if they were part of his family. He was voted trainer of the year several times.
Jimmy will be greatly missed by many. He loved his fighters and took great pride in mentoring them.

Relatives and friends invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday August 27 th 10am-12:30 pm in the MacKinnon Funeral Home, 760 Washington St., Whitman.
A funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 12:30 pm.
