Harvey Day of East Bridgewater passed away September 5, 2014 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 76. Born on Lynn, he was raised in Salem and attended schools there until he joined the Navy in 1955. After traveling the world in the Navy, he retired after 20 years of distinguished service included service in Vietnam. He was awarded several medals and several other military and civic awards. After the Navy he lived in Brockton to raise his family and later moved to East Bridgewater in 1999. His dedication to fellow veterans remained active. He was a member of DAV, and past Commander, Brockton VA Hospital, VFW 1046 of Brockton, and past president of the Top Three Military Retired Association, and also an active member of the Bertocci Memorial Club in Brockton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Marie (Petersen) Day. His son Captain Michael Day, USCG, and his wife Kristina of San Francisco, CA, and daughter Barbara Reynolds and her husband Paul of East Bridgewater. Harvey was also the proud grandfather of 3 grandchildren Matthew, Allison and Lauren Day.
He enjoyed playing golf, bocce, bowling and playing cards at the East Bridgewater Sr. Center. A true gentleman in every sense of the word, loved for all his easy laughs and optimistic view of life. He loved spending time with good friends and he never lost his love of travelling the world. He will be missed.
Visiting hours in the MacKinnon Funeral Home 760 Washington St., Whitman on Monday Sept. 8 th 4-7 pm. Relatives and friends invited to attend.
Funeral Service will be on Tuesday in the funeral home at 11 am.
Interment at a later date at Mass. National Cemetery in Bourne.
