South Yarmouth

Bergamini, Gina M.Giovaninna Cantalini

Age 92 of South Yarmouth, MA passed away peacefully at home on August 24 th , 2022. She was the devoted wife of the late Thomas S. Bergamini with whom she shared 55 years of marriage and happiness. Born and raised in Leominster, MA before moving to East Longmeadow, she was the daughter of Germano and Giovannina Cantalini. Gina loved her family, and her large extended family and life.

She graduated from Commerce High School in 1950 and prior to her marriage worked for the New England Bell Co.

Gina was an avid gardener and member of the East Longmeadow Garden Club. Her knitting skills were epic; she always had a teddy bear in the works for family gifts, fund raisers and donations to charities like the Ronald McDonald house. All of her family members enjoyed their own personalized Christmas Stockings, even the family pets. She served as an assistant scout leader and once walked 65 miles to raise $3000 for breast cancer research. Gina and Tom would also prepare Thanksgiving dinners and donate them to local families. Her work experience included retail sales and real estate until she and Tom bought the Elijah Burt House in East Longmeadow. They worked hard at restoring the home that was built in 1720 and was one of the stops on the Underground Railroad. They were able to get it listed on the National Register of Historic Places due to their renovations mirroring period design and architecture. They hosted school field trips to share American History with young school children and anyone with interest in their beautiful home. To enter the home was a step back in time.

In 1979, through Tom’s work at Pratt and Whitney aircraft they were able to move to Belgium for 3 wonderful years where their travels took them all throughout Europe.

Gina is survived by her daughters Joanne Sullivan and husband David, Janice Bergamini and her wife Pamela Stoner, Marianne Jasmin and her husband Alan, Roberta Bergamini, her son Thomas Bergamini and his husband Robert Collum Jr. and her youngest daughter Gina Szynkaruk and her husband Jack.

She is also survived by her brother Frank Cantalini, and her sisters Rita Benoit and Carol Tonioli and many nieces and nephews.

In her last days she was able to have all of her grandchildren with her at her home, Kelley Surun, Kevin Sullivan, Brett and Drew Snook and Jennie Szynkaruk. It was a special moment for all.

She also leaves 4 great grandchildren, Jack and Taylor Snook and Sonora and Shepard Sullivan.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Church at 128 Maple St. East Longmeadow, MA on Friday, October 7 th , 2022 at 10:30am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gina’s favorite charities: Ronald McDonald House 34 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107 or VNA Hospice of Cape Cod Health Care 255 Independence Drive Hyannis, MA 02601
