Gerald (Jerry) Butts, 79, of Brockton entered eternal peace February 6, 2017. Husband for 57 years to the late Mary (Green) Butts, his true love, who passed just weeks before him. Gerald was the son of the late William Butt, Marion (Butt) and Dave Murphy of Carbonear, Newfoundland, brother of Helen Meaney and her husband William of Fremont, California. Preceded in death by his brothers and sister, Jack Soper, Sadie (Soper) Slade, Leonard Soper and George Soper. Jerry was born and raised in Newfoundland, and as a young curious man traveled to the United States to visit family, and this is where he stayed. Jerry became a U.S. Citizen in 1959. He was a member and past Grand Knight of Whitman Knights of Columbus Council 347. Member of the Irish American Society.
Making his home with Mary in Brockton, he was a devoted father to Deb (Michael) Calway of Hanson, Pamela (Joseph) MacInnis of Plymouth, Jerry (Kimberly) Butts of Raynham, Karen (Steve) Butts of Brockton, and Glenn (Linda) Butts of Raynham. Brother in law to Barbara Matthies of Foxboro. Also survived by his 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren whom he treasured so dearly.

Relatives and friends invited to attend visiting hours at the MacKinnon Funeral Home, 760 Washington Street, Whitman MA on Friday February 10th 4-7 pm.
Funeral Mass on Saturday Feb. 11th at the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman at 9 am.
Interment at Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
