Gerald "Jerry" Bernard passed peacefully Tuesday after losing his courageous battle to cancer at the age of 68. Born and raised in Brockton, he was a graduate of Brockton High School class of 1974. After high school he joined the US Army serving his country for six years before moving into the auto parts industry. He eventually found a long-term position at Jannell Ford of Hanover where he dedicated over 30 years of service prior to his retirement.
Jerry enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, crossword puzzles, attending air shows and military events, and was always up for a good bar style pizza. Family was everything to Jerry, he spent countless hours with his grandchildren watching The Three Stooges and was always calling his sons to let them know when a silly 80's movie was on TV. Those that knew him always referred to him as a good man and he embodied that in everything he did. Always selfless, giving, and willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it.
Predeceased by his parents Gerald and Joan Bernard, sisters Caroline Bernard and Catherine West, and son Verne Calrson. Survived by his wife Linda Bernard, sons Nick Bernard and wife Alicia Bernard; Hans Carlson and wife Kristin Carlson; and sisters Susan Trent and Christine Russell. Loving Popsi to Samantha, Nicole, Emerson, Andrew, and Nicholas. Great Grand-Popsi to Vada, Liam, and Noah.
Family and friends are invited to join us for visiting hours 10am-12pm Thursday at MacKinnon Funeral Home, Whitman. A funeral service will immediatly follow in the funeral home at noon. Burial to follow at the Colebrook Cemetery in Whitman.
