Francis "Frank" H. Killorin Sr., age 97, of Duxbury, died on July 9, 2016, in Kingston. Frank was the loving husband of 70 years to Margaret Ahern Killorin. He was born in Newark, N.J., and at the age of two, lived in Papeete, Tahiti, where his father was the manager of a copra plantation. By the time Frank was in high school, he lived in Connecticut, where he graduated from the Taft School in Watertown. He then graduated from Yale University in the class of 1941 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He served in the Navy as a lieutenant during World War II aboard the aircraft carrier Mission Bay. He was proud to have participated in the atom bomb tests at Bikini Atoll in 1946. He married Margaret Ahern in New Haven, Conn., in March 1946. Following the atom bomb tests, Frank went to work for Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, Pa., as an engineer. After this he worked at several positions as a consulting engineer with different major companies. The last 30 years of his working career were devoted to alternative energies.
Frank is survived by his wife, Margaret Ahern Killorin; daughter, Margaret K. Keirstead and her husband Steven Keirstead; daughter, Elizabeth Kelley and her husband Robert Kelley; daughter, Pamela Higgins and her husband Dean Higgins; son, Francis H. Killorin Jr. and his wife Nancy C. Killorin; and son, Mark P. Killorin. Frank had nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Holy Family Chapel in Duxbury at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2016
