Francis Charles (Frank) Carullo, 78, of Dennis, MA, died at home on Monday, August 11, after battling cancer. He was born in Quincy, MA, on January 10, 1936, the elder of Frank and Maria Carullo’s two sons.
He grew up in Quincy and attended Archbishop Williams High School where he played three varsity sports and was an All Scholastic Football End in 1952. He graduated from Brown University in 1958 with a baccalaureate degree in English Literature. At Brown, he was first string football tackle for three years and a member of Phi Delta Theta.
Following college, he served in the U.S. Army for three years, two of which were in Africa with the Army Security Agency. He first came to Cape Cod in 1949 and moved to Dennis in the 1960’s, seldom crossing the bridge and never desiring to be anywhere else. In 1966, he earned his Master of Arts Degree in Education at Boston State College. A retired school teacher, he taught English for thirty years at Dennis-Yarmouth High School. For nearly fifty years, he was a commercial lobsterman and fisherman. He was a founding member of the Massachusetts Lobstermen’s Association, volunteered with the Dennis Fire Department, and enjoyed caring for his backyard birds, gardening, and gatherings of good friends on Saturday nights.
Frank loved his life, his family and friends, and especially his little piece of this planet that was his heaven here on earth. A true one-of-a-kind, he will be dearly missed. He is predeceased by his parents and brother John and survived by his sister-in-law Jill Carullo, nephews and nieces John Carullo (Susan), Julie Carullo, Jodie Molamphy (Patrick), Jennifer Carullo, and Jared Carullo (Dana), five great-nieces and nephews, and many close cousins.
A celebration of his life will be scheduled at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Massachusetts Lobstermen’s Association Legal Defense Fund, 8 Otis Place, Scituate, MA 02066-1323.
