David Emberg

May 15, 1949 — March 3, 2017

David Alan Emberg, 67, of Kingston, died of a sudden cardiac event on Friday, March 3, 2017. David was born in 1949, in Brockton, to Richard and Ruth Emberg (nee Holmberg, later Johnson), and graduated from high school there in 1968. Before settling down, he traveled around the lower 48 with friends in a Volkswagen bus, the stories that came back were the stuff of legends. He married Catherine Sollis in 1977 and they moved their family to Kingston in 1989. David was employed as a master builder and union finish carpenter. He had served as Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 49 of Kingston and was a foster father for many children over the course of 20+ years. He was a regular fixture in the Kingston area; if you knew Dave, you got a smile and a wave every time he drove by. As a child, he summered with his family on Cape Cod and never lost his love for its places and its myths and legends, which when retold - always seemed to include some of his own fishing stories. Throughout his life, Dave enjoyed fishing, boating, gardening, walking in nature, reading, stargazing, cooking, watching documentaries, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, friends, and many pets. Not only did he enjoy these many hobbies, he also helped to cultivate these interests in others. He was a usual suspect in the disappearance of all available fresh corn-on-the-cob from every farm stand on the South Shore - if you saw someone buying all the corn he could carry while holding a cup of black coffee, it was probably Dave.

David will be sorely missed and survived by his children, Heath David Emberg and his wife Kimberley of Hopkinton, Lindsay Catherine Emberg and her partner James Caldera of Plymouth, Brendan Michael Emberg and his wife Lea of Kingston; adopted son, Donald Hayes of Plymouth; his brother, Richard Emberg and his wife Roberta of Bourne; several grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his cat Lily. He was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Ruth.

An informal memorial and potluck celebration of his life will be held Sunday, April 23, at 1 p.m. at the Hilltop Club, 65 Pottle St., Kingston.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Boy Scout Troop 49 through the Troop 49 Campership Award in memory of David Emberg, c/o Jim Hurley, 7 Donald Rd., Plymouth, MA 02360
