Clarence "Dooey" Doolittle

Clarence "Dooey" Doolittle of Hanover, MA passed away peacefully on Friday, April 22, 2016 following a brief illness. He was born to Clarence, Sr. and Lucille (Scharf) Doolittle on November 3, 1925 in Cumberland, MD. Following his 1943 graduation from Allegany High School he entered military service and served with the Third Army, 87th Infantry Division, participating in the Battle of the Bulge.  His studies at the University of Maryland were interrupted when he was recalled to active duty during the Korean War.

Eventually graduating from the University of MD, he had a long and interesting career as accountant, director of personnel and labor relations negotiator with various companies including Capitol Credit Corp., Addressograph-Multigraph, Gillette Corp. and Tarkett Floor Coverings. Since 1994, he worked at his son's music store Crossroads Music in Hanover.  Dooey was a talented musician, playing trumpet with many jazz and dance bands through the years, including the Boyd Raeburn Orchestra, and also was a member of the Hingham Civic Orchestra.

Survivors include his sister Dorothy Collins and her husband John of Longwood, FL, his sons William and wife Nancy of Poughkeepsie, NY, James of Waltham, MA, Robert of Hanover, MA, and Paul of Whitman, MA as well as their mother, Lee (MacLean) Doolittle. Also surviving are grandchildren Timothy, Peter, Amanda, Amelia, and Maclean, and great­ grandchildren Connor, Audrey, and Quinn. His sister, Ann, preceded him in death in 2013.

Dooey will be laid to rest in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.

Visitation will be held Sunday May 8th from 12 to 3pm at MacKinnon Funeral Home, 760 Washington St. Whitman.
