Charles Ryan

Charles Francis Ryan, 79, of Venice, Florida passed away after a very brief illness on March 7, 2018. Charlie was born on October 23, 1938 in Boston, Massachusetts to Charles and Ruth Ryan.  He grew up in Dorchester and graduated from Gate of Heaven High School.   He had a long and successful career in real estate beginning in New England, then Atlanta, New Orleans and Florida.  He was involved in the franchise area as well as development and sales.  He was proud of his service in the National Guard.   Following his move to Florida, he enjoyed a second career with Morgan Stanley in Boca Raton as a financial advisor.  After retirement he helped his daughters begin Classic Tile & Stone business in Hingham Mass.  He enjoyed mentoring and encouraging the girls and appointed himself chief financial officer.

Charles is survived by his loving wife, Pamela and daughters Deborah (John) Looney, Julie Ryan, Kristin (Tom) Henaghan, Carrie Ryan, Step-children Lorie Ryan, Christie Baird, Blake (Lesly) Hallock, and Wade Hallock, as well as son-in-law & confidant Ismet Kancal. He was fondly referred to as “Yampa” or “Papa” by his grandchildren: Nicholas, Paige, Megan, Lazaro, Cailin, Adrien, Errin, Emre, Courtney, Preston, Catherine, Colby and Grace.  He was preceded in death by his brother William Ryan.

He was an avid golfer and a member of the Venice Golf and Country Club.  He loved to sail and travel and made many trips to Istanbul and Ireland.  He had an enormous enthusiasm for life, a great sense of humor and enjoyed his friends and family.

Visiting hours in the MacKinnon Funeral Home 760 Washington St., Whitman on Friday, March 16 ^th from 5-8 pm.

A Funeral Mass will be held in Holy Ghost Church, Whitman at 10:30 am on Saturday.

Interment will be at a later date.
