Carmelita Anne [Goodine] Hendrick of Weymouth, passed away on December 1, 2024, at the age of 81, after years of prolonged illness.
Carmen was born in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada; the youngest of five children and the only daughter, growing up on the large family farm; immigrated to the United States in 1953 with her family when she was 10; settling in Weymouth, MA.; and her entire family proudly became Naturalized U.S. Citizens.
She attended Bicknell Junior High School & Weymouth High School; graduating with the Class of 1961. She had a great fondness & respect for the U.S. Military & Veterans; hosting many homesick U.S. Navy Sailors by inviting them to her parents Weymouth home for many of her mother's homecooked meals. After her schooling majoring in Business, for decades she immediately became an Accountant, Secretary, CFO, among many other work skills & talents, for various Doctors Offices & elsewhere; followed by working in Marketing & Advertising for multiple newspapers throughout the Massachusetts South Shore. Her creativity & leadership placed her the CFO of Marketing & Advertising for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA); a position she held for many years until her Retirement. Simultaneously all those decades, she additionally perfected Hairdressing; becoming licensed; for which she continued Hairdressing on the side for Family & Friends throughout her working years.
Carmen was a tremendously talented & diverse woman. She enjoyed Oil Painting, Flower & Vegetable Gardening, Houseplants, Country Music, Seafood, many Pets, Collections, Casino Gambling, Elvis Presley, Boardgames, Playing Cards, Cooking, White Chocolate, Camping, Wallpapering, Blue Cheese Dressing, Decorating, Cardinals [bird], Swimming Pools, Parties, Cruise Ships, revisiting her large family throughout the U.S.A. & Canada, and most of all Traveling to almost all 50-U.S. States; all Canadian Provinces; and frequenting the Caribbean Islands. She worked on various Town, City, State, & Federal Political Campaigns over the years; organizing many large political events and functions. She was ecstatic whenever she could host entertaining Family & Friends at home & abroad. Carmen played a special role at times, as the glue of her large extended family in the U.S.A. & Canada, a role that will not easily be filled as she always made sure everyone was cared for; and informed of family events. "GOODINE" Family Reunions in the U.S.A. & Canada; some at times with several hundred Guests. She was a Navy Wife [twice} and a Navy Mom. She will be missed by all the Family, Friends and Colleagues that knew her.
Carmen was predeceased by her parents Lawrence Ernest & Marie Madeline [Michaud] Goodine; and her four brothers & five sister-in-laws Joseph Pius [Pikey] & Vera, Vernon R. & Bernice, Reginald [Reggie] & Peggy / Diane, Joseph Archille [Archie] & Mary [Mouse] Goodine; and predeceased by Navy Veteran ex-husband Leroy [Roy] Andrew Nowicki, and widow of Navy Veteran husband Jimmie Lee Hendrick, and step-son Dale Hendrick.
Carmen was survived by two children daughter Coreen [Nowicki/Flanagan] Anderson & husband Bryan of Whitman; son Timothy Alan Nowicki & partner Lisa of North Weymouth; also step-daughter Shelly [Hendrick], step-daughter-in-law Carolyn Hendrick; and four granddaughters Carleen Flanagan & wife Tiffany, Tamara [Flanagan] Lundgren & husband Dylan; and Alexandria Virginia Nowicki, Nathalie Victoria Nowicki; and great-grandson Nathan Flanagan; and she was also survived by countless 1st, 2nd, & 3rd generations of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, the entire Texas Hendrick Family; and Others.
Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation Wake in memory of Carmen, on THURSDAY, December 12, 2024 from 4-7PM, in the MacKinnon Funeral Home, 760 Washington Street, Whitman MA. 02382. A Memorial Service & Clergy will immediately follow the visitation Wake at 7PM, in the Funeral Home.
The following day, VERY UNIQUE, double-header, back-to-back ceremonies at the cemetery:
Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited & urged to attend this unique experience at Carmen's, Spouse [non-military] Burial & Clergy brief ceremony, that will take place on FRIDAY, December 13, 2024 at 1:15PM to 1:30PM, by the Guests meeting "BEFORE 1:15PM" at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne MA. 02532. [adjacent to the Otis Air Force Base, Cape Cod.] As Guests arrive, Funeral Staff will 'direct' vehicles to park in 'specifically designated' rows; Guests are to remain in their vehicles until 'our row of vehicles' is then relocated to a nearby 'ceremony pavilion'.
Coincidentally, 2-days after Carmen, Timothy Alan Nowicki's partner Lisa's - Uncle Joe passed away, and coincidentally he is also being buried at the Massachusetts National Cemetery. Immediately following Carmen's ceremony, the Funeral Home and Cemetery Staff were amazingly able to make special arrangements at 1:45PM to 2:00PM for Uncle Joe's, Air Force [Full Military Honors, Color Guard, American Flag Folding, Taps] Burial brief ceremony. It will be a wonderful & unique experience for all Family & Guests to witness.
Immediately after both ceremonies [pending cemetery rules & activities at that moment] it may be a possible option for Family & Guests to visit the gravesite of Jimmie Lee Hendrick; which will also be Carmen's final resting place.
A celebration of life, after the cemetery, gathering Family & Guests at a restaurant around the National Cemetery region or otherwise, is still unknown, pending a Sponsor, scheduling, and/or available funds to do so.
