Barbara Lanoue
June 3, 1918 — March 2, 2017
Barbara Louise Lanoue, who will be remembered as Teddy to all who knew and loved her, died on Thursday, March 2 nd , at the Falmouth Hospital . She was the widow of the late Clarence L. Lanoue. She was 98.
Born on June 3 rd , 1918, she was the daughter of John J. Carey and Mary E. (O’Connell) Carey. She grew up in Whitman, with her sister, Eleanor “Ellie” (Carey) Pierce, who predeceased her, and her brother James “Jim” Carey, who now resides in Alaska.
Upon her marriage to Clarence, the couple settled in Brockton and became the parents of six children.
Three daughters, Aloria, Claire and Elaine, preceded them in death, childhood victims of Cystic Fibrosis.
The remaining siblings are a daughter and two sons, Barbara Jean “Barbie” (Lanoue) Moloney, Paul Michael “Mike” Lanoue and John Joseph “J. J” Lanoue. Teddy is also survived by three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Additional survivors include many nieces and nephews and many extended family members and dear friends.
Teddy and Clarence spent much of their lives devoted to the causes closest to them. They were continuous supporters of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. For J. J., who was born with Down Syndrome, and others with a myriad of challenges, they were instrumental in the creation of Community Connections on Cape Cod, a day facility and haven for those with special needs, where J. J. still continues to be an active participant.
Throughout their marriage, the couple enjoyed many well deserved and relaxing vacations and island cruises and in their later years, they retired to Harwichport with J.J. After Clarence’s death, twenty years ago, Teddy remained in Harwichport with J. J. for many years and later moved to Mashpee.
Teddy was a woman of deep faith and was committed to that faith on a daily basis. She was very generous with her time when others were in need and filled each day with purpose and accomplishment. She will be missed as a woman of true faith, hope and charity and a positive attitude toward life that inspired strength in those around her.
