Baerbel E. (Pitt) Davis, 80, of Sandwich passed away February 15, 2016 at her home, surrounded by family. She was born in Magdeburg, Germany and, after escaping communist East Germany, attended school in Freiburg. She immigrated to the US in 1961, worked as a kindergarten teacher in Brookline and Barnstable Schools, and taught at the Goethe Institute's German Saturday School in Boston. She loved knitting, rug hooking, growing orchids, skiing, and biking. She formed many close friendships through the Cape Cod Ski Club, a friends knitting group, and as a volunteer Friendly Visitor with the Sandwich Council on Aging .
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, G. James Davis, her children Claudia Reshetiloff of Tortola, British Virgin Islands, and Eric J. Davis of El Cerrito, CA and brothers Rainer Pitt of Simmonswald, Germany and Axel Pitt of Staufen, Germany. She is also survived by her grandchildren Maxwell and Anya Reshetiloff and Alexander Davis and many other loving relatives and friends.
A Memorial/Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to Independence House (Hyannis MA), Cape Cod Healthcare (Hyannis), or Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Boston).
