Thomas Michael Adams, Sr. of Whitman passed away Thursday, April 29 th 2010, at home surrounded by his large, loving family, he was 83.Husband of 55 years to Marjorie (Coyle) Adams. Born in Dorchester on December 24, 1926 to Mary-Anne (Greene) of Carna, Ireland and John Joseph Adams, of Mayo Ireland. Loving father to six sons, Thomas M. Adams Jr. and wife Lynne of Marshfield, John “Jack” and Lisa Adams of San Anselmo, CA., Stephen P. and Susan Adams of Middleboro, Michael F. and Heidi Adams of Whitman, Mark R. Adams of Whitman and Daniel L. and Karyl Adams of Whitman. He is survived by his sister Mary-Anne Driscoll of Abington, Dr. Francis J. Adams and his wife Judy of Braintree, Ann (Nancy) Cawley of Weymouth and Sister-in Law Claire Adams of Braintree. He was pre-deceased by his brothers John J., James P., Edward W., sister Kathleen (Terese), and an infant brother, Leo.
A U.S. Veteran of WWII and Korea, as a Navy Corpsman. He received a Masters in Education from the University of Massachusetts Boston. A retired teacher of thirty-three years at Quincy Central Middle School, he taught both Science and Woodshop and once coached his football team to an undefeated, unscored upon season. A proud public servant to the town of Whitman as a chairman of the Whitman School Committee, influential in the building of the Whitman Middle School. A member of the Whitman Democratic Committee, served as a Whitman Selectman for twelve years as well as Chairman of the Board of Selectman in Whitman. A great and loving Grandfather to fourteen grandchildren, Sage, Devin and his wife Jillian; Brandon, Matthew and Erin; Ryan, Shannon and her fiancé Alexander Thomas ; Spencer and Callie; twins Meghan and Lauren; Michael, Eric and Daniel, who all fondly remember him as Gramps. His local trips with them in his “War Wagon” were a joy to him and them alike.
Visiting hours in the MacKinnon Funeral Home, 760 Washington Street, WHITMAN on Sunday May 2, from 4-8pm.
Funeral Mass in Holy Ghost Church Monday at 10 am. All friends and relatives invited to attend. Interment at Mass. National Cemetery in Bourne.
