Ruth Mccartney

d. January 31, 2016

Mrs. Ruth A. McCartney (Stewart) left this world Sunday, Jan 31, 2016 to join her beloved husband, Alex.  She was 76.  She was the amazing mother of Julia Simmons (McCartney) and her husband Frank of Halifax, and Florence Hannan (McCartney) and her husband David of Glenburn Maine.  Sister of Edna Dwyer and husband Jim of Braintree and Joan Richardi of Braintree.  Ruth was the proud nana to her granddaughter, Madison Simmons and her five grandsons: Jarred McCartney, Cade McCartney, Spencer McCartney, Colby Hannan, and Kaden Hannan.  Also survived by many nieces, nephews and many others that she considered family.

Ruth grew up in Braintree and graduated from Braintree High School.  Soon after she was married to Alex in 1966, they bought their first home in Halifax where Ruth was the stay at home mom to Julia and Florence.  She later returned to the work force for several years as a customer service specialist for T.J. Maxx in Pembroke and San Diego.  In 1990, Ruth and Alex moved to San Diego, CA. for Alex's career.  Although loving the sunshine, Ruth missed being close to her family.  Upon Alex's death in 2009, she promptly moved back home to Halifax.

Ruth spent every minute of her life caring for others.  She made everyone around her laugh and smile. Everyone has their "Ruthie" stories that they can remember and share with a smile and a laugh.  Of course, her twin sister Edna Dwyer has the most stories secured by their special bond. She will be sadly missed and forever remembered with a smile.

A celebration of life will be held February 20th at The Monponsett Inn, Halifax from 12-4 pm.  All who knew and loved Ruthie are welcome to attend.
