Diane R. (Rolfe) Bates, 82 of Weymouth passed away April 13, 2016 at the Queen Anne Nursing Home in Hingham. She is survived by her husband Edward F. Bates of Weymouth. Her children Mara (Hanlon) Carey of Rockland, Linda (Hanlon) O’Neil of Scituate, Daniel Hanlon of Hilton Head, SC. Stepmother of Edward M. Bates, Elizabeth (Bates) Cataldo, James Bates, Barbara (Bates) Mortland of Weymouth and William Bates of Norton. Sister of Brent Rolfe of Buxton, ME, Adrienne Toomer and Marcia Rolfe of St. Petersburg, FL and the late Larry (Myron) Rolfe, William and Peter Rolfe, and Eileen Wall. Also survived by 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Diane was a caring, loving woman who will be greatly missed by those who knew her. An avid reader, she enjoyed historical fiction and romance novels. She loved watching and feeding birds & enjoyed baking. She will always be remembered for her banana nut bread recipe. Above all Diane treasured her family and was the happiest when surrounded by them.
The family welcomes family and friends to celebrate Diane’s Life at a memorial service at the Rockland Golf Course, 276 Plain Street, Rockland, MA on Sunday May 15, 2016 at 10:30 am.
A private burial will be held at the Mass. National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
